Yaoi is considered a very controversial term for an art form started in Japan and includes expressions of itself through manga, doujinshi ( which means self-published yaoi or comics), anime, and of course, fan art. Yaoi usually tells the sexual story of homosexual or gay relationships between male toon characters and was originally drawn primarily by girls or women. Some people get confused and think that yaoi is the same as shonen-ai, meaning "boys love", which is similar in concept, but yaoi is actually different than that. Shonen-ai is usually not graphic, only considers romance among same sex individuals where Yaoi is the graphic sexual representation of male to male love in cartoon or Yaoi form.
