I remember growing up and watching re-runs of old American Westerns … shows that were sanctioned by my ultra religious parents … and I grew to love the all macho version of the American cowboy.   Little did I know that this fascination with macho cowboy men was the first indications of my true self, the first signs that I was attracted to manly men.   It wasn’t until I reached my twenties and was able to look back on those early childhood days that I was able to credit that period, and the love of watching old American Westerns as my first identification with being gay.

One thing I never saw in these old westerns was anything close to someone who appeared to be gay…or even remotely attracted to other men… usually the more purient interests were portrayed by men seeking the pleasure of women in seedy flop house hotels usually upstairs above the local tavern.    As I have become more informed of the real world and able to research history, I have found that gay men were around almost as far back as the history of man is recorded.    They had to be around in the period of the wild American west too, right?

So, being the ‘creative force’ (hahahaha) behind the SpunkToons.com website, I have taken liberties on more than one occasion with rewriting history.   In this case, I asked our gay comic artist to create some new scenes from the old wild American west and this time to include some gay action in it!

The Gay Comics website shows plenty of what toon lovers want to see – guys kissing, fucking, eating ass and sucking dick, not to mention faces dripping with cum. There aren’t a lot of specifics on the tour, but you can get an idea of what the site has to offer.  There’s some bondage and BDSM, interracial ass pounding, muscle men, outdoor sex, daddies and group action. I like the variety I’m seeing, so join me as I log in and check out the member area.

Gay Comics is easy to navigate, offers 228 galleries and 8 videos, but while that may not seem like much, they’re over 30 minutes each, and at least 2 are around an hour long.  There are no dates on the updates, and the last time an update was mentioned was Christmas eve, 2011, which is a little over a month ago.

The videos are downloadable WMV’s shown at 640×480 with bitrates around 1.3 Mbps. Quality is pretty good, although you will notice a loss of sharpness if you enlarge the videos to full screen.  Sound is good, too, and so is the animation. In fact, the animation is definitely some of the better stuff I’ve seen in toon sites, professional and appealing.  And very hot.

There’s a variety of artistic styles in the PICTURES section.  I found Anime, western toons, colored sketches and more.  Art quality varies, too – some is quite well done, some offers less in the way of shadows, color and realism, and some is fairly primitive but gets the job done. Pictures vary from around 584×826 to 1000×700, and the pics are offered at good quality – no blurring, muddy colors or other issues here.  Some of the sets are more like comic books, with multiple frames on each page, but I didn’t find many with dialog. Still, there’s plenty of ass-pumping gay sex in vivid color

Gay Comics offers plenty of variety from horny college boys in action to office sex. There are a few Santa sets (and isn’t Jolly Old Nick the ultimate bear?), bald headed daddies sucking cock, bodybuilders, interracial toon action and more – lots more. I didn’t run into a lot of super heroes or many impossibly massive dicks, but you will find a military men in some kinky stuff, a mechanic getting down and dirty, and some group sex.  You’ll also find jedis getting it on, ninjas and trannies. Not sure trannies really fits here, but there’s a fair amount of these horny chicks with dicks with big tits and cocks.

Does this site have issues? Well, there’s no way to know how often updates occur, and it doesn’t seem to be that often at a glance. I would have liked to browse by category as the search feature didn’t work that well – I saw plenty of uncut toon cocks, but a search for “uncut” didn’t get any results.  But other than these things, there’s not a lot to complain about.

Gay Comics doesn’t focus on comics, but they do deliver plenty of horny toons in action, including Anime and western styles.  Offering 228 galleries and 8 long, downloadable videos, there’s a lot more to see here than in most toon sites. Where things get sticky is that lack of update info and possibly infrequent updates. For the price, I’d like to see regular updates and perhaps a bonus site or some feeds. Still, if you love watching cartoon cocks getting sucked, and hardcore toon sex, I’d suggest you check out the Gay Comics website and see more of what they have to offer.

Sometime in 2010, Archie Comics revived their  Life with Archie comic book which had been shelved in 1991.   This series featured Archie in facets of his life that were a bit more adventurous than the typical Archies Tales comics and was always a bit edgier than the regular Archic comic stories.

When the series started publishing again in 2010, the publishers wanted to keep with the more socially progressive and more socially relvant side of the comic but have it represent the world in which we all live today.    Can’t imagine they could use social “norms” of 1991 in a new comic today and have it read, much less relevant to what is going on in the world today.

One of the riskiest moves the Archie Comics company made was introducing a gay character, Kevin Keller, who was originally only slated to make a brief appearance but who ended up becoming a very popular character in the Life with Archie comic series.   It was quite controversial at the time to put a gay character in such a main stream comic, and many predicted it’s demise, but according to the co-chief executive of Archie Comics, Jon Goldwater (the founder’s son), there have been less than 10 cancelled subscriptions resulting from the introduction of Kevin Keller since the issue in which he was introduced.

As Kevin’s popularity among Life with Archie readers grew, Archie Comics decided to give Kevin Keller his own monthly series..very similar to what was done for Jugghead, Betty, and Veronica.

Now in it’s 16th issue since being republished in 2010, Life with Archie takes another bold move and features Kevin Keller in the first ever gay marriage in Archie Comics history.    Kevin will marry the African-American doctor, Clay Walker, that patched him up when he was wounded as a soldier in Iraq.

Talk about progressive comics!   Bravo to the Archie Comics company for daring to take this very pro-gay stance!

The second annual Bent Con has come and gone, and once again, it appears to have been a big success!  Held on December 3rd and 4th at the Westin Bonaventure hotel in downtown Los Angeles, California, many of the gay communities iconic cartoon artists and their fans were in attendance.

The aim of the convention, from it’s inception, is to celebrate, encourage, and support all those associated with creating gay creative arts including artists, producers, writers, directors, and showcase their works for a LGBTand LGBT-friendly audience.  Previous to the inception of Bent Con, gay comic art was lost in the sea of art and artists at some of the larger comic conventions and this budding annual event brings focus to a community of art and artists that was lacking.

Up from approximately 20 vendor booths last year, this years’s Bent Con had grown to include between 50 and 70 vendors, a host of panel disscussions, a cosplay fashion show and some film screenings of new and upcoming films.  The schedule for panel discussions was packed with tons of informative, insightful and fun topics including “Classically Gay: Humor in Comics”, “Drawn This Way: Gay Male Erotic Comics”, “Tom of Finland: Super Foundations” and much more.  There was definately something for everyone in the panel discussion schedule.

There were also tons of one on one interviews and question and answer sessions with some of the LGBT most iconic artists, writers and producers…Michael Manning, (author of “Spider Garden”, “Hydrophidian”, “In A Metal Web” and “In A Metal Web 2″), Joe Phillips, creator of “Joe Boys”, “The House Of Morecock” and “Stonewall and Riot”, Writer Jane Espenson, Wendy Pini, known for her “Elfquest” creation that blends erotic sci-fi with Yaoi and Manga, and too many more to list here.   You an still read the entire Bent Con schedule of the event on the Bent Con Website

Bent Con after dark from 9 PM to 2 AM featuring premiers of movies of interest to the LGBT community that have never been seen before.  This was a definate change from the year before and a nice addition that gave a chance for many to screen films that have yet to be released, as well as those that might have been missed when they were originally released.  This event looks like it was a great way to get up to speed on what films are of interest and available to us gay comic lovers as well as get sneak previews of films to come.

From the schedule of Bent Con and the videos and photos I have seen from this second annual LGBT gay comics convention, I would have to say that it came off as a big success.  Next year promises to be even bigger, with more artists, more booths, more film screenings, and tons more fun.

Spunk Toons.com is a colorful gay cartoon porn site packed with cool stuff including lots of exclusive content.  The tour shows you what to expect, and the member area gets you right into the mix.  There are many categories running across the top of the page, and below to the left are the dates of the recent updates, which are 3 to 4 days apart.  You’ll find updates, coming attractions and graphical versions of the section links below. There are 513 galleries, 37 comics, 20 videos and 48 toon profiles.  The site has 21 categories including super heroes, impossibly big dicks, horny dieties, 3D art, and lots more.  In fact, there’s so much gay toon material here that it’s hard to know where to start.

I decided to start with the gay Comix section.  There are 37 comic books, most with between 2 and 5 pages each, although a few have more.  These are mostly multi-frame pages, and there’s a variety of both Asian and western style art, and plenty of huge, throbbing cocks in action.  There’s a recurring comic about a bodybuilder named Dick and his sexual exploits, and you’ll also find a rough cowboy getting his dick sucked, spies getting it on, ninja sex, vampire love and trannies.  Some comics have plots and dialog, some let the action speak for itself.

Next, let’s check out the various galleries.  The comics here are for the most part exclusive.  They’re hand drawn and colored in a wide variety of styles – anime, manga, western toons, rendered 3D art, to name a few.  The pics are good quality, and most are sized between 768×576 and 907×1200.  It appears that a variety of artists are used, and some toons are detailed, with plenty of shadowing and a sort of realistic look where others are simpler cartoon styles.  Expect everything here from solo twink art to hot-and-heavy gay group sex.  There’s plenty of bondage, college guys and barbarians, not to mention massive, dripping uncut manmeat in tight asses and mouths.

The Spunk Toons gay hentai videos are in WMV format, and are embedded in a player that displays them at 450×400.  The first 6 videos are parts of a video called Samurai Fantasy, and these are in classic anime style, and probably as well done as any toon I’ve seen on TV, as well as being much hotter.  The other videos are odd, sort of a mix of live backgrounds and 3D rendered guys.  These have no plots, but lots of cocks getting pumped in just about every way possible… and tell the truth, now – isn’t that what we’re really here for?

There are some more interesting sections here. First off, there are 2 sections with profiles of the characters from the main sections of the same name.  Each of these contains character art plus a profile with age, occupation – for example “Hot sex, danger, exotic places” and dislikes.  And there are games, including mahjong ,break out and several puzzle / arcade games with backgrounds of naked or partly naked toon men.

Spunk Toons delivers hot and horny gay cartoon action, hunky toon bodybuilders, gigantic cocks and more.  Offering over 500 galleries, 37 comic books and more, the site adds new content at least twice a week.  There are plenty of categories, most featuring dick sucking, ass fucking and huge loads of toon cum.  While there weren’t that many videos, that’s normal at toon sites, and I’d say the large amount of exclusive content and frequent updates makes up for it.  The bottom line – if you’re looking for gay anime, manga and western erotic and comic art, Spunk Toons is definitely worth checking out.

In looking over previous posts in the blog, I realized it’s been a long time since I’ve done an artist profile.  There is one artist I’ve been meaning to profile for quite some time so today’s the day!  Let’s take a look at one of my favorite gay comic book artists, Patrick Fillion.

Several of the artists that I have profiled have memories of drawing art at a very early age..some joke that they were born with a pencil in their hand and Patrick is no exception.   Born in 1973 in Quebec, Canada, Patrick started drawing his favorite cartoon characters..much like many other children, and soon fixated on X-Men character Storm.  As he became more captivated with her, he learned to speak English so he could understand her dialog in the comics he read about her.  As Patrick became more involved with his art, he became more of a loner at school and subsequently delved even deeper into his cartoon creations, using them as both his escape from the reality of being an outsider as well as a way to begin to explore his own budding sexuality.
This period of self exploration let to Patrick creating his character Camili-Cat, a a part alien, part feline superhero roaming the planet in search of his own species.  It was through the adventures of Camili-Cat that Patrick begam to explore his own sexuality.  Embuing Camili-Cat with his own personal frustrations, Patrick explored the world of his own isolation and attraction to me thus making the journey less of a lonely quest and one he could share with those who read his comics.  As Camili-Cat became more bold, Patrick began to inject sexual themes to his stories allowing him to explore his own homosexuality and measure it’s acceptance through the comments from readers.  Once thinking he was the only one of his kind, Camili-Cat, and subsequently Patrick himself, realized he wasn’t alone in the world and this helped him to really focus his art on what are now deemed some of the most iconic gay erotic cartoon and comic art in publication.

From Camili-Cat, Patrick’s art soon grew to a portfolio of many gay cartoon characters and comic book series including Boy toons, Deimos, Guardians of the Cube, Naked Justice, Rapture and more.  As he grew more comfortable in his own skin, Patrick began exploring a more hardcore side to his gay superheroes.. and today, you would have to look hard not to find one of his creations without a nice prodicious cock and a huge sexual appetite.

Patrick’s life partner Fraser, also a huge lover of hung superheroes, started Class Comics in 2004 to both release Patrick’s art as well as open it up to distribution of other artists works.  An interesting result of his own isolation as a person and an artist early in life has, in my own take on his previously written biographies, helped him develop a very open and accepting philosophy about his art.  Instead of keeping Class Comics just for his own works, Patrick wanted it to be more of a community of artists and a way for their voices to be heard so that while individually they may feel alone, but through this group collaboration, they all realize they are not.  Perhaps the lessons learned from exploring life through Camili-Cat helped him become this very community oriented artist.

These days Patrick knows he is definately not alone in the world, and certainly very aware of his sexuality and very comfortable with where he is in his life.  This shows in the vibrance of his art and the adventures he illustrates as his own characters give voice to what many gay men experience all over the world.  Perhaps it is this that makes his works so much in demand…the fact that Patrick, his partner and the community of artists that is Class Comics create from the position of being in the know about the realities and complexities of gay life.

A few days ago I just upgraded and purchased the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer, moving from my previous 7 inch Galaxy Tab screen to a much larger one that is perfect for viewing my gay comics collection!  But now I want more comics for my new tablet computer and there doesn’t seem to be too many places to get them.  (HINT: The SpunkToons.com site looks GREAT on my new Galaxy Tab!  HeHe)

There are literally hundreds of Yaoi books for sale on Amazon, and initially I got really excited by the possibility of reading yaoi comics on my tab, judging from the front cover of the book on display on the amazon website, but alas they are nothing more than gay fantasy stories without much illustration at all!  While I can appreciate a good fantasy story with the best of ‘em, I wanted full color comics!  There are some gay adult comics on Amazon but most of them are in print format only and the few that are in digital kindle format are not quite of the quality I have come to appreciate as a fan of gay comic art or like their yaoi counterparts, are nothing more than text stories.

I did a search of the android market for any comics that might have gay characters in them, but once again came up empty handed.  Although there are many different gay applications on the android market, the only thing that came close to what I was looking for was a straight CosPlay application which showed actual girls CosPlaying their favorite characters…and of course, no gay ones.

As if they read my mind, I just got an email update from Class Comics!  They now have digital PDF gay comics that are compatible with android devices!  One of the reasons I love my galaxy tab is that it is so easy to get whatever files I want added to the tablet without having to use itunes!  I have had an iPad and really liked it, but I’m not a big fan of the big brother approach requiring the device to be managed through itunes…so I opted instead or the android tablets that let me add whatever content I want, without having to use a software interface.

Anyway, so I got this email from Class Comics and it appears they have been testing digital comics for a short period of time and the results were good enough that they just released 6 of their comics in this new digital PDF format.  (The Initiation #2, Zahn #2, Deimos #2, Naked Justice, Beginnings #2,  and the not yet available in print Camili-Cat Changes mini comic)   Now since, Kindle and the Galaxy tab both handle PDF’s naturally (iPad does too, but I’ve not tested these comics on iPad), I’ll be able to view the famous Class Comics gay comics series on both my Kindle and my galaxy tab…but I think I’ll be better off viewing them on the tab to be able to appreciate the art better in color as opposed to black and white only on the Kindle.

The member home page is easy to find your way around, with links across the top of the page, network updates below and underneath that are links to content sections and bonus sites.  The site offers 48 multi-page Anime Books, 120 toon sets plus 7 movies in Anime DVDS.  The rest of the listed content is bonus stuff like stories, games and bonus sites.  Although the network updates pretty much every day, there are no updates for this site in the list, and I’m fairly sure the site no longer adds new content.

The pictures in the Toon Sets section are colorful and good quality.  Sizes vary from around 650×400 to 650×920, and each gallery can be viewed as a slideshow.  Expect all sorts of action from kissing to cumshots, college boys embracing and samurai toons shooting their loads.  Expect demons, businessmen and guys at the gym. The quality of the art varies, and some is nicely done and well-shaded.  I did run into a few toons where it appears that at least one of the guys was originally drawn as a girl and was altered to fit a gay site, but most of these are horny male anime or more western-style toon guys.

The “Anime Books” are comic books, each page shown at around 700×1000.  All the pages are full color, and there are nominal plots, but there’s less dialog than I see in similar sites’ comics, and the art is less detailed.  If you’re looking for erotic toons, you may find these are right up your alley, but if you’re looking for comics that will really get you involved with the stories and the characters, you may find – as I did – that these don’t deliver.

The Gay Asian Anime videos are offered in 3 downloadable formats; MPG, MP4 and Flash, and are also available to stream.   The largest videos are the MPG’s, which are shown at 640×480 and are average quality.  Next come the Flash videos, which are sized at 500×256, and last are the MP4′s, which are sized for iPhone and iPod at 320×240.  These are actually a little better quality than the other videos, and look good on mobile screens.  Sound is good, and all the videos play smoothly.  The streaming videos are WMV’s, and are on the small side; they’re shown at 352×272 with a bitrate of 350k, so while they look okay at their original size, expect a loss of quality if you go full screen with them. 
 
Regarding the videos, I have a couple issues.  The first is that while the section is called Anime DVDS, it appears that 6 of the videos are short partial scenes from a single DVD title adding up to around 30 minutes of playing time.  Also one of Gay Asian Anime’s is actually not a toon video at all – it’s live humans getting off.

Members also get access to a small collection of Flash animations, 11 short erotic stories, a gay Asian streaming feed.  There’s a section called Gay Personals that aren’t actually personals – they’re small pics taken from personals.  There are also 8 bonus sites from the same network, including 4 exclusive Asian sites, but none are toon sites.  The Live Cams section allows members to see cam guys’ profiles, but clicking the pics will take you offsite to a cam site where you can chat free with the models but if you want full nudity or action, it will cost additional fees.

Gay Asian Anime offers members gay toon art, comic books and a small collection of short video clips as well as some extras.  Despite tour claims, the site no longer updates, but there are 120 galleries and over 500 pages of comics.  Expect plenty of kissing, cum-dripping cocks and a variety of anime fantasies, although not much in the way super heroes or aliens.  While the comic books are simple, both regarding plot and art, the Toon Sets are pretty good stuff.  There are also a few downloadable video clips plus non-anime bonus sites that do update, but the pics in the galleries are definitely the high point for this site.  If you want to see more, why not head over to Gay Asian Anime and see what they have to offer!

I always love looking at other gay comics and cartoon sites to step outside my little box and see what’s going on with other websites and to get a different perspective on gay cartoon art.  There are so many styles and variations in drawing gay comic or cartoon art each dependant on the specific artists involved.  One of the best of the best display of lustful, colorful, and simply awesome gay cartoon art is on display at the Class Comics website.  Started in 1995 as a way for Patrick Fillion, the creative force behind most, if not all, of the Class Comics comics art the site has grown into a well known gay comics treasure trove that is home to works and art collaborations by some of the most talented gay cartoon artists around the world.  We have written profiles on a few of the artists that collaborate with Patrcik and Class Comics and intend to do more of these profiles in the coming months.  For now, let’s take a look at what’s inside the Class Comics website and sample some of it’s incredible art.

Naked Justice from the Class Comics website

Class Comics is more than just a gay toon site – it offers full downloadable comic books with plots, dialogue, and starring the very well-hung and muscular characters from gay erotic artist Patrick Fillion.  In case you’re not familiar with Mr. Fillion’s work, his comics include super heros, aliens, ghosts, devils, and more – all beautifully done and packed with hard cocks, cock-sucking and ass fucking action.  And there’s lots to see on the Class Comics site, so let’s take a closer look. 

Class Comics is not a typical monthly subscription based membership website – they specialize in offering individual comic books that you can download on an as-desired or on-demand basis.  No monthly charges to worry about, just download the gay comics you want, when you want them.  There is an all-you-can read or as they call it “The Big Load” bundle that you can download and get access to all 44 of their digital comics at one time.  This bundle would run you a very easy sum of $149 USD ($3.39 USD per issue) versus $380 if you buy them all one at a time.   Some of the most popular comics available for download are Guardians of the Cube, Satisfaction Guaranteed, Camili-Cat, Naked Justice, Rapture, Deimos, Porky, “Rainbow Country” and The Pornomicon.  All with superbly drawn art that will more than tweak your wildest sexual superhero fantasies.

There are currently 48 digital comics available for immediate download in what they call “Firm DRM” (you can only read them on your computer or mobile device…(no sharing with your friends), and 15 of them are also available in “Easy PDF” format.  Each comic book includes several preview pics, nice long descriptions, info on what each comic contains – some include an interesting variety of extras including concept sketches, character studies, pinups, and sometimes content that is only available in the digital versions of the comics.  Each offering also links to the mini site for that particular title.  Let’s talk about how buying a comic works here.  When you pay for a comic, you will receive an email link that will allow you to download the comic to your computer, and you are allowed to enjoy it on 2 computers at any given time.  The license is good for a year or as long as Class Comics continues their comic DRM program.  As far as I know, the comics are not printable – if you want actual paper comic books, Class Comics sells these for the same price as their digital editions.  Each digital comic is the equivalent of a multi-page comic book, professionally colored and shaded, with plenty of huge cartoon cocks and lots of action, both sexual and otherwise, plus extras. 

Class Comics offers a free sampler that not only acts as a very nice preview of the comics, but allows those who are interested in buying the digital comics to make sure they’ll work on their computer.  The sampler offers plenty of impossibly gorgeous toon men with thick veiny cocks, washboard abs, beautifully muscular bodies – and sometimes horns or a tail.  The sampler shows naked male bodies, some gay sex, and gives a very good idea of the kind of stories you can expect.

It’s worth mentioning that those on unusual or older computers, or those who are technically challenged, may have trouble with these digital comic books.  If any of those things might describe you or your computers, be sure and download the sampler to make sure the comics will open on your computer. 

If you’re a fan of graphic novels or erotic art, chances are that Class Comics has some of the best quality gay toons and comics you’ve ever seen. Sometimes it’s fun to fantasize about what it would be like if our favorite superhero was gay.   One of our comic artists decided to explore one popular superhero fantasy by drawing a spoof comic strip about a gay web crawling superhero named Spider-Gay.   In this epidsode of Spider-Gay we get to see that fighting crime is not the only thing that keeps our webbed superhero occupied.   Between his own sexual desires, most of them satisfied by having his way with the villians he catches, and the advances of many of the citys’ criminal masterminds toward him, Spider-Gay is quite the busy guy….and quite a naughty, dirty boy at that!
