gay comics stranger with a pistol

I remember growing up and watching re-runs of old American Westerns … shows that were sanctioned by my ultra religious parents … and I grew to love the all macho version of the American cowboy.   Little did I know that this fascination with macho cowboy men was the first indications of my true self, the first signs that I was attracted to manly men.   It wasn’t until I reached my twenties and was able to look back on those early childhood days that I was able to credit that period, and the love of watching old American Westerns as my first identification with being gay.

One thing I never saw in these old westerns was anything close to someone who appeared to be gay…or even remotely attracted to other men… usually the more purient interests were portrayed by men seeking the pleasure of women in seedy flop house hotels usually upstairs above the local tavern.    As I have become more informed of the real world and able to research history, I have found that gay men were around almost as far back as the history of man is recorded.    They had to be around in the period of the wild American west too, right?

So, being the ‘creative force’ (hahahaha) behind the SpunkToons.com website, I have taken liberties on more than one occasion with rewriting history.   In this case, I asked our gay comic artist to create some new scenes from the old wild American west and this time to include some gay action in it!

This gay comic called “The Stranger’s Pistol” is one of the episodes we had commissioned in our history rewrite of this famous American period.   You can see all of this comic in our SpunkToons members area.   Check out other gay comics in our SpunkToons members area  Join SpunkToons now.

Steve MacIsaac – Gay Comic Artist

Art Courtesy Steve MacIsaac

Growing up is not always a happy experience for many around the world and that includes the next artist in our artist profile series, Steve MacIsaac. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, Steve says that his developmental years were challenging at best and it many times seemed as if life was doing everything it could to keep him down. Like many who find inner strength in a determined purpose Steve used the creation of art as a way to keep his head up and his mind off of the tribulations of life.

While growing up was not always a bowl of cherries, Steve says the earliest memories from his childhood are of the times when he created some of his first art. At around 6 years of age, as an avid reader of “The Hardy Boys” book series, Steve would get his own inspirations for new “Hardy Boy” stories, creating a series of potential book titles and drawing the cover art, but never quite making it to actually writing the novels. It was during this period that he knew that he wanted to be an artist in some form for the rest of his life.

Continuing through his adolescent and early adult years, Steve kept drawing, coloring, and producing a variety of art, developing a love for short comic graphic novels. He tells us in our email interview with him that along the way he has come to admire the works of other cartoon artists such as Eddie Campbell, Chris Ware, and Dylan Horrocks.

Steve, now 41, resides in Long Beach, California, USA, and draws his artistic inspirations from watching people around him in day to day life. Absorbing the details of situations and people that he sees, he then feeds those memories into the creation of autobiographical and fictional characters and stories. While comic art is not his sole source of income, it is what keeps him balanced in life and as such an essential part of who he is.

The creative process Steve uses is much like many other artists with a few slight variations. As most artists, he usually begins with an idea, some issue he wants to explore, and it is usually aligned with some aspect of gay culture. Once an idea has formed, he drafts a general story outline and plot points, and sets the general tone of the story he wants to tell, filling in the dialogue on pieces of scrap paper so that he can see the basic framing of the story. Using a digital camera, Steve then goes about taking shots or videos of models from the angles he is interested in, using his rough story boards as a guide, to get the right perspectives for the frames he wants to draw. After sorting through a mountain of photos and choosing those that best represent what he wants to convey in each comic panel, he uses Adobe Illustrator to digitally pencil the rough versions of each panel. After all the panels are roughed in, Steve then arranges them, cropping and adjusting them to get the correct rythm of the pages. After the rearrangment of all the panels, the dialogue is added in, being rewritten as necessary, followed by digital inking, and then final coloring in Illustrator.

A well published gay comic artist, Steve’s works can be found in many places including Amazon, TLA Video, Prism Comics and of course his own online Steve MacIsaac store. Keep up with what Steve is working on and appearances he makes through his website and blog.

logan kowalsky - gay cartoon porn artist

At one time or another many young comic book fans try their best to draw their favorite superheros, but not many of them actually know at such a young age that they will pursue it as a career choice. Cartoon and comic artist, Logan Kowalsky is an exception. At the age of 12, he began drawing his favorite superheros and knew almost immediately that he had found a love for something that went beyond adolescent fantasy. He knew then that he wanted to draw cartoons for the rest of his life. During his youth, Logan would read many comic books, and follow many of their artists, emulating their style, learning from their shading and inking techniques and developing his own inspiration and ideas as his skills developed. A lifelong fan of superheros and comics, one of his first completed art pieces was a portrait of Ororo from the X-Men series.

An openly gay man, Logan proudly proclaims on his website, “Those who know me can tell you..I’m a total sex maniac, and I’m proud of it!” He goes on to say that he loves to talk about sex and that fact should be very evident from the characters that he creates as most of them are manly, dominant and love cock. He says he can stop talking about sex if he is a really good boy, for about 15 minutes…about the time it takes him to give a really good blowjob.

When asked about other artists he likes or is inspired by, Logan says that Busceme is his favorite “classic” artist in the comics industry and always tries to learn from his work. He finds Mike Mignola is a good reference for him as it always reminds him that you can find your own style from experimentation, and that less is more when it comes to drawing a comic book page. Other artists are also important to him on a variety of levels and subjects. Immonen and Sprouse he admires for the elegance of their drawings, Kieron Dwyer, Guy Davis, and Michael Lark for the energy and storytelling, and the overall awesomeness of Urasawa’s Manga work.

Presently living in Oissel, Normandy, France, Logan lives a life that many of us could only dream of; pursuing his work, not for necessity, but because it is what he loves doing. In an email interview with him he says he spends all of his days occupied with drawing, storytelling and playing his guitar. When he creates his art, Logan says his process is much like that of most other comic / cartoon artists. He starts with a scene idea, usually inspired by something he has seen in another comic book, or a character he liked from another artist. He will then sketch it out, and if he feels the scene is strong enough will write a complete story around it. Sometimes the process of writing the story, completely eliminates the original scene he sketched that gave him the story idea because the story has shifted and grown away from that original inspiration. When the story is roughly complete, he will make a set of story boards for the entire story. Once satisfied with the pace and progress of the story, the pages get drawn, then inked and colored. Finally, after all the art is done, the script dialogs are added.

Logan has had his work published in several places and is currently published in Bear Mag, where he draws a one page strip comic and a few illustrations in each issue. He is also publishing a regular story for Class Comics called “Porky” and is the regular artist in charge of Patrick Fillion’s “Deimos” series. You can also find his works in the French magazine, Fanzine Dokkun, and recently his French publisher, H&O Comics published his complete works of “Porky“, “The Pornomicon“, “Deimos” and others.

You can see from Logan Kowalsky’s website  that he has drawn quite a bit of gay art in a variety of series and styles including bears, chubs, superheroes, police, soldiers, as well as fantasy and sci-fi. He has several published online comics titled “A Cops Day“, “Homophobic“, “Dr. Strange“, “Daddy“, and “Male, Inc

You can also follow Logan on his blog where he discusses projects he is working on, or announces new releases of his comics.

Logan’s works can also be seen on Yaoi! Gallery and Deviant Art websites. You can also follow him on facebook and twitter.

guardians of the cube

Guardians of the Cube is a gay adult comic series that fuses the classic genre of superhero comics with elements of fantasy, humor and eroticism. Composed primarily of Gay and Lesbian characters, the series is the root of the Class Comics Universe.

Originally published in the mid 90s, the first 5 issues of the series have been completely revisited with updated artwork, story treatments, and fantastic new full color covers.

Naked Justice, Incubus, Ghostboy, Numa, Catnip, Jetstream, Diablo and Jeanne Darque make up this team of superheroes sworn to protect the world and its population from any threat.

These heroes are hung and hot in their spandex undies. Fighting crime has never looked so damn good!

Intimate Moment illustration art by Sven De Rennes

Growing up and living in France, surrounded by a city that has deep ties to French art and culture, Sven De Rennes began to develop and express his interest in art as a young boy.  Seeing his art as a “magical power” he began to show others what he saw, imagined, or felt by expressing it through his drawings in the most realistic way possible.

He studied at the art college of Rennes II (Bretagne, France) and became interested in science fiction and fantasy universes.  He began using his attention to detail and rapidly developing drawing skills to create works exploring fictional sci-fi characters through a variety of ‘other world’ experiences.

While publicly pursuing an education in arts he privately was exploring his own inner desires and emotions, coming to terms with his own sexuality through expressions in gay themed art.  In 2002 Sven decided to “come out” and publicly express his interest in the gay world around him.   With his art, he likes “playing with erotic situations, sometimes soft, sometimes not so subtle, always trying to incorporate a bit of humour, tenderness and feeling in the bonds between my characters.”

When asked about his source of inspiration during a 2004 interview with the Ibigay Magazine, Sven said, “I love grasping certain situations through my drawings, whether they be exciting, amusing or sweet…I am mostly inspired by my souveniers, situations, or boys that I just simply walk by in the street, on the beach, by pictures seen on the net.  It can also be linked to a feeling I have, or felt like expressing, the drawing is just an exit.”  According to the same magazine interview, Sven has a special respect for the works by Tom of Finland, but finds a particular affinity with the works by French artists, Pierre and Gillis, because of their sense of color and perspective.

His work has been published in a variety of magazines and websites, including Ibigay News (2004), Manner Magazine (2005),  Mec Annnonces Magazine, Wag Magazine (2006), and Wing Magazine (2009) and has drawn specific commission works for Bel Ami Online, magazine covers, flyers, brochures and advertising pieces for a variety of bars, saunas and clubs.

What is Manga?
Posted by admin in Terms & Definitions
Oct 30th

2010

The term Manga refers to Japanese comics and print cartoons in different genres. They have been in the Japanese culture since World War II; however, historians assert that Manga dates from earlier centuries.

The production of Manga is one of the most profitable industries in Japan, as everybody of all ages reads the magazines. The genre varies from horror to sexuality and from business to action and adventure, which targets the entire population of Japan as far as interests go.

Manga is printed in black and white and they come in the form of small books, like notebooks, easy to read and store. Publishers issue a collection of one episode for each story in one edition and they continue publishing the chapters that follow in the same way. If the story is successfully enough, they print the Manga in a paperback edition.

Manga is known worldwide, with the difference that outside Japan Manga is identified simply as comics published in Japan. In the Unites States readers refer to Manga as “Amerimanga” while in France “la nouvelle manga”. Other countries such as Taiwan, China and South Korea are big fans of Manga as well.

The first publication of Manga was made by Kanagaki Robun and Kawanabe Kyosai in 1874 under the name of Eshinbun Nipponchi. This first edition wasn’t very successful, but years later, the famous Japanese writer Shonen Sekai wrote Manga based on the First Sino-Japanese war. It wasn’t until World War II that Manga became the number one favorite magazine in Japan, though.

The success of Manga is seen in the variety of genres that one can easily find. After World War II, young men and boys were the main readers as the Manga was focused on science fiction, sports and supernatural adventures. Women and girls also enjoy reading Manga, the romantic genre is their favorite and most popular among young ladies.

Modern Magna has changed and a new variety of magazines can be found. Sex as a genre has always been part of Magna; however, starting in the early 1990s, Japan decided to censor this and other genres with explicit content.
The contemporary drawing and the explicit sexual content found in Manga targets men and readers seeking specific niches with different fetishes. Readers can easily find soft and hardcore sex. Among some of the niches readers can find are extreme ones such as rape, sadomasochism, zoophile, incest and simple ones like full nudity.
